The Press Council of the Republic of Moldova announces an open competition to select members of the Board of Experts for the period June 2026 – May 2028. Candidates recommended by the journalism community and media consumers are eligible to participate in the competition.
General Information
The Press Council of the Republic of Moldova is the national self-regulatory body for media organizations and journalists, operating in accordance with the provisions of the Journalists’ Code of Ethics to promote quality journalism and adherence to journalistic ethics standards. To achieve its statutory objectives, the Press Council selects, through an open competition, a Board of Experts tasked with examining disputes between media consumers and media organizations/journalists, identifying violations, and issuing decisions and recommendations.
The Board of Experts consists of nine members, including five representatives from the journalism community and four representatives of media consumers. The members of the Board of Experts are selected by a special committee for a two-year term and serve on a voluntary basis.

Selection Criteria
Members of the Board of Experts to represent the journalism community may be nominated by:
- editorial offices of media organizations (print media, broadcast media, news websites);
- professional media organizations, including industry associations.
The candidate must meet the following criteria:
- is familiar with and adheres to ethical standards and the principles of journalistic ethics, as well as media and related laws;
- is a person of integrity and is respected within the journalistic community;
- has no political affiliation and has not been a member of a political party or other political organization in the past five years;
- has at least 3 years of experience in journalism;
- (for candidates nominated by media organizations) the editorial office which nominated the candidate has signed and adheres to the Moldovan Journalist’s Code of Ethics.
Members of the Board of Experts to represent media consumers may be nominated by:
- groups of media consumers consisting of at least 10 Moldovan citizens who have reached the age of majority;
- labor unions;
- employers' organizations, other than those in the media sector;
- religious organizations;
- nonprofit organizations in fields other than the media (human rights, environmental protection, business, etc.).
The candidate must meet the following criteria:
- is familiar with the general principles of journalistic ethics;
- is a person of integrity and is respected in the field they represent and in society;
- has no political affiliation and has not been a member of a political party or other political organization in the past five years.
The application package for the competition must include the following required documents:
- The candidate's résumé;
- a letter of recommendation and justification of compliance with the criteria listed above, signed by the head and a representative of the staff of the organization or institution making the recommendation (in the case of candidates nominated by media consumer groups, the letter must be signed by at least 10 people, with their contact information included);
- the candidate’s written consent regarding their willingness to serve on a volunteer basis as a member of the Board of Experts, should they be selected.
